Book First Login: A LitRPG and GameLit Series. (The World Book 1) Review :

Very good book, nothing especially unique but it is solid. Needs some work using commas aka the Oxford comma. As far as the plagiarism issue goes i don't see it. It certainly draws heavily off a few books, the dragons wrath and ascend online in particular, but having read both of said books i don't agree. Having similar building mechanics and book start does not equal plagiarism. Could the author be a little more originals, yes. Did he plagiarize to any significant extent beyond a few ideas and sentances, no.
I was turned off picking up this book because a podcast was saying it was a plagiarized from another book series i liked. I ended up reading it after several months and other reviewers saying it not plagiarism. After reading it, there are similarities with 2 of the situations but i can say that about a lot of books. The LIT-RPG genre really only has a few ways to setup a book. 1) the MC got caught up in the world and can no longer log out and they are now searching for the logout option or their body was destroyed and they have to live for the rest of their life in the machine. Most of the books on the market use this route. 2) they are a gamer and the new "Virtual Simulator Pod" came out that gives real life experience (with or without a body suit). The writer has to answer the question of how the MC supports themselves. For the vast majority of the books it comes down to one of 2 things, they a play tester or are they a pro-gamer? How do pro gamers make their money? feeds or selling in-game money. The second part that seems to be cause of plagiarism has to do with they way the MC enters the game. both are dropped naked into a battle to save NPC's (one was a camp of people fleeing from battle and the other is an established town). The battle was against the same named type of monster. So let me get this strait, if the story had changed to maybe Kobolds instead of Goblins this would have been different. Both books have the MC saving the NPC's (go figure). This is what is now being called plagiarism? wow.I only get on my soapbox about this because it stopped me from reading this series. I am saddened that the podcast and the other writer have gone to such lengths to say it was plagiarized. From what he was saying was it was 50% or so the same book as the other one. its not. How much those ideas overlap is about as much as the zombie or prepper novels overlap.Overall it was a good story, i wish that they had 1/2 stars because, to me, it was a good 4 1/2 star book. The main issue is like most point out is it needs a good editor. The author states as much in the beginning of the second book. The magic system and crafting system are not unique but are open and they can be learned in several ways. No limit at this point to the number of skills/crafting that one can have. The crafting system is pretty basic. Get the skill, level it up, buy or make blueprints. The system is not that different then most of the other books i have read. Only a few stand out as "Unique". This is refreshing from a lot that i have read recently where the MC is really in a morality play where they are considered "evil" but the "good" side is the side killing everyone. (really should be law and chaos). The MC in this one stands up for other players that are being abused by A-Hats and is on the side of "good". The action is decent. the MC, like with most, is OP for a lot of the situations in the first and second book, when he is with normal players. I wish the books were longer but for the price, its not a biggie. I have not finished the 3rd yet so i hope that there is an ending to it. Books 1-3 could have been a long single book. But this is par for the course with independent books. This may be updated once i finish the 3 and 4th.
